Section 7 - Facilities & Storage
All powerboats run on unleaded fuel contained in removeable red tanks; one tank is secured inside each powerboat. Fuel is stored remotely in a purpose-built secure steel store situated opposite Garage #1. Instructors must familiarise themselves with the green plastic filler tanks and the respective locations of the red fuel tank on each safety boat. Ensure that empty filler tanks are placed back in the store with the empty label clearly visible. The club maintain fuel stocks with periodic fill trips to a local petrol station. They key to the fuel store is held on the rack inside the Club Office.
Instructors must be aware of the flammable nature of fuel and read the handling precautions found in this section of the Operating Procedures; specifically the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidance note INDG216 on handling petrol.
Keys for each powerboat are held in the Office on the wall-mounted board. These include kill cords and the various garage keys. Outboard engine covers must be removed from each boat after use and stored on the wooden rack inside the Club Office.
The club has a special license from the UK Environment Agency to use a UV weed retardant in Lake 16. The product currently applied is 'Dyofix Pond Blue'and it is stored in packet form inside white plastic sealed-lid containers; normally stored on a wooden pallet inside Garage #4.
Other potentially hazardous materials including paints and lubricating oils for garden machinery are also stored at the rear of Garage #4.
Instructors do not need to access any of these materials during normal course operations but should be aware of their location in proximity to the club RIB stored in Garage #4.
Cleaning materials (e.g., white spirit), West System Epoxy materials as used for dinghy repairs, cleaning cloths are Nitrile protective gloves are stored inside a plastic bin located on the right-hand side of the Training container.
