As well as offering sailing and powerboat courses we also offer a range of other RYA and club training courses for members such as 1st Aid, Race Management and Introduction to Racing.

Introduction to Racing

Description

This is a one day course that covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages.

This course is aimed to give your volunteers the confidence to run the club racing and to have a good knowledge of the procedures and duties of a race officer.

This is a South Cerney Sailing Club course that provides a basic introduction to racing at South Cerney Sailing Club. The course is aimed at anyone who would like to start racing and is ideal for novices and beginners.

Course content

The recovery position in a confined space
CPR, including the drowning protocol
Cold shock and hypothermia from immersion and/or exposure
Seasickness and dehydration
Medical assistance or advice by VHF
Helicopter rescue

The course provides an overview of the Race Management Scheme, the structure of Race Management and the knowledge and tools that you will need to be able to run racing at your club.

The course covers the types of racing available at South Cerney Sailing Club, race signals, courses, and a few basic rules of racing. The course is free to club members

Ability after course

In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations. This one-day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers. It fulfills the requirements for dinghy sailors, powerboat drivers, Instructors and coaches.
