Membership

What does membership at South Cerney Sailing Club include?

South Cerney Sailing Club is a club run by the members for the members. An important condition of membership is that active members undertake a number of duties each year - please see the Membership Terms for details.

We offer both active and associate membership.

Active membership allows members to participate in the many on water activities throughout the year, 365 days, our doors are always open. This includes

  • Dinghy Sailing
  • Windsurfing
  • Kayak Paddling
  • SUP Paddling

Associate membership allows members to attend the club and use the shore facilities and support their family or partner.

All members can bring guests to the club subject to club rules.

Membership also provides you with access to training courses.

Special membership for the winter season only, 1st November to 31st March, is available to accommodate sailors who's normal clubs close through this period.

Please see the different membership products available in the menu/ shortcuts to the right hand side of the page.

We really look forward to seeing you at our club.

Visiting

You would be very welcome to visit.

If you look at the calendar on the website, you can see what is happening and when, and plan your visit accordingly.

In the winter, the club is usually active on Sunday mornings with racing.

In the summer season there are a wide range of activities. We have the Hotdog series on Wednesday, racing at 7pm and people socialising after 8pm. On Saturday, we have Cadets in the morning and the Handicap Race at 2pm, so people are around after that, or during the morning for Cadets. On Sunday, we have Class Racing at 11am and socialise after 1pm. In the afternoon there is a Pursuit Race at 2.30pm, finishing at 4pm. However, there are variations, so please check the calendar!

We have an active Facebook page "South Cerney SC Chat" which will also give you a good idea of times that are good for visiting. You will be very welcome at the club and if you make yourself known, there will usually be someone around who is more than happy to chat and tell you about the club.

Another option is to look at our webcam (see our webpage) and if you see a boat sailing, you can be reasonably sure there is someone around. You will need to ask a member to let you in as the gate is kept locked.

Club Boat Hire

If you become a member of the South Cerney Sailing Club and you think that you have enough experience to be able to sail a club boat, then these are available to hire, but you will need RYA level 1/2 or equivalent experience. You also do need to have a short introductory session first to make sure you know how they are rigged and to check that to you will be happy and safe with them. More information is available here.
