Overview
South Cerney Sailing Club is an extremely happy and friendly club
Our fantastic premises allow you to get on the water all year round or chill out with a glass of something in front of the water maybe with the family, the choice is yours.
Located on the Cotswold Water Park on the largest lake in the area. South Cerney SC is known as a professionally run members club.
What do we offer?
As an RYA Affiliated Club, working within the professional standards and guidelines set by our national organising body, we pride ourselves on introducing members to boating in many different forms. From a simple paddle around the lake on a Kayak or SUP to sailing Windsurfers or Dinghies.
Just a beginner or improving?
Participating in on-water activities at our club, the experienced gained with support freely available from other members, is the best way to start and improve. We are also proud to be an RYA Training Centre providing a range of accredited courses for dinghy, power boat and support activities like first aid etc to adults and youngsters alike.
To support our members without a boat we have a range of dinghies to hire and some completely free of charge. The 420s are an ideal boat in which to learn with another person and freely available to all members. We even run our "Super Saturdays" through the summer months where we provide a senior instructor on sight to support you getting on the water with the 420s or Lasers or some of the other boats in our fleet.
More competitive?
Well known for our dinghy sailing, training and racing, we provide active support for those taking their first steps from cruising to high quality racing and if the desire is there, on to future Olympic champions. We race all year round on most Saturdays and Sundays. Then there is our ever-popular Wednesday evening Hotdog series and our Chilli Dog series in the deep mid-winter ... brrr!
And for the Windsurfers, the ability to get out throughout the week at a time or when wind conditions suit you is a bonus. With secure garage board storage racks and a safe launch beach, beginners can potter around the lake whilst those more experienced can take advantage of our prevailing southerly winds.
And for the younger people
Our vibrant junior section provides training for youngsters at all levels from 8 year olds and upwards starting with our famous 96 Squadron Cadet Fleet. Specific RYA courses are run for the younger members. This is the starting point in a progression that can take you through to the youth sailing, RYA squads system and eventually the next Ben Ainsley depending on your ambition. Or just learn to sail, a skill that will be with you for life, through university and beyond.
We are very proud to be approved as an RYA OnBoard Centre. The RYA OnBoard Programme offers young people the opportunity to try out sailing through their local club or centre in a safe, structured and fun environment.
Open to anyone aged 8-18 the programme enables those taking part to experience all the excitement and relaxation that being on the water offers, whilst at the same time teaching them a wide range of invaluable life skills, from problem solving to leadership and teamwork.
When the sun is up
The secure area in front of the clubhouse is ideal for families, whatever age, but we are blessed with well-kept lawns running to the water. The bar and galley are open at certain times providing drinks and snacks. But then light up the barbeque and enjoy an evening watching the sun as it drops below the horizon.
We do look forward to seeing you.
