South Cerney Flying Fifteen Open - 5th, 6th July 2025

Published 16:17 on 7 Jul 2025

The 2025 SCSC FF15 open took place on the 5th & 6th July as part of the Southern Traveller series. Sadly, there were no visitors to the event, however 5 club boats took to the water with very windy conditions and big gusts. Peter and Alan Hogg won the first two races, with John Harvey and Barry (Matt Lawless for R3,4,5&6) taking first place in races 3&4. The conditions took its toll with gear failure to FF3486 helmed by Kean Gunton and Nicholas Hogg. Particularly impressive was our fleet newcomer Colin Ward sailing FF2680 helmed by his son Bruce with Colin the crew, they conquered the challenging winds and said, "it was great, and fifteens are a really fun boat". Steve and Grace O'Donnell were placed 3rd in two of the four Saturday races in their classic FF2562.

Sunday winds were a little lighter for races 5&6. With slightly less challenging winds line honours went to Peter and Alan Hogg with John Harvey and Matt Lawless finishing second. Sadley gear failure affected Kean Gunton again. The balance of the fleet enjoyed the races, not withstanding having no visitors (hopefully next year we will return to more visitors and fleet of 12 plus).

Prize giving was aptly captured by our Commodore Blair Jamieson saying ALL competitors were winners taking part in a great event in such challenging winds.
