SCSC GP14 Open - Saturday 30 August

Saturday saw SCSC host the GP14 two-person dinghy Open Meeting.
Paul K who was race officer set the best course possible: a long beat, short run, broad reach, short beat, long broad reach and a beam reach before they started beating again. He courteously shifted a mark to respect a bankside angler's wishes
The weather was challenging with strong gusts beating some boats into capsizes and the crews working hard to keep boats flat and shed excess power, and at other times a more gentle breeze where crews were encouraging every ounce of power out of their sails. We had almost all weather variables, except bright sunshine!!
All the crews did well with a short timespan between first and honourable last.
Some dinghies seemed to build an unassailable lead, but the next time they were seen they had a boat right on their transom. Other's looked in jeopardy of being overtaken but then had a great beat in shifty conditions, or caught a gust just at the right moment and had stretched ahead. It was a great series of races to watch.
