Swifty Pursuit
Published 08:26 on 14 Oct 2024
This is a reminder that we are just one week from the start of the new Sunday Swift Pursuit!
This will be a friendly not too serious sail for everybody to enjoy, similar in spirit to The Hotdogs, a good race for less confident sailors and the bar will be open afterwards for a sociable drink after the race.
With thanks to Paul Kimmens, the 45 min pursuit timer has been set up with a start time for Solos of 1400. Attached is a class-order list for the start times for other boats at SCSC.
Watch the countdown display carefully, as this goes down once every 15 (not 45) seconds! There are no race officers; we rely on helms to know their start times and cross the line after their number disappears. Everyone finishes when the hooter goes at 1445. Please make a note of the boat immediately ahead of you on the same lap and remember it; we need this to produce the results. If you finish on a beat on opposite tacks, make a judgement call. Any disputes will be settled amicably at the bar!
The race will be run with as few people on duty as possible, so safety boat cover only with the usual driver and crew, which we racers will take turns to cover.
Rachel and I will start the series by doing safety driver and crew for the first race on 20th October. But to be clear these duties will NOT count towards club duties.
There are 8 races in total beginning 20/10/24 -15/12/24(see website calendar). Four races to qualify. There will be no race on the 8th December because of the AGM.
We'd love to see you!
Best regards,
William and Rache
