RYA Senior Instructor (SI) Course - 4-days total over 2 weekends: 21-22 March & 28-29 March 2026
The RYA Senior Instructor (SI) course is aimed at experienced RYA Dinghy Instructors (DIs) who wish to advance to the next level of RYA instructor competence. This 4-day course (split over 2 consecutive weekends) will cover the core organisational and management aspects of the SI role including RTC management, on-the-water supervision and oversight, and ensuring that all RYA courses are delivered in accordance with their respective syllabus requirements. At the end of the course the DI will be able to carry out the following concurrent activities at their RTC:
- Assess the specific hazards and safety-related issues of the RTC and brief the instructor resources accordingly.
- Organise and managed dinghy sailing courses in accordance with the RYA National Sailing Scheme and Youth Sailing Scheme requirements.
- Organise and control multiple group sailing activities coverings varying levels of RYA tuition to a wide range of sailor ages and abilities.
- Plan, supervise, direct and assist a team of DIs and Assistant Instructors (AIs): the latter working directly under the instruction of the SI.
- Monitor and evaluate DI and AI performance throughout the sailing course(s), provide 1-to-1 feedback and help plan their development programmes.
Please note that this course runs for 4 days. It is NOT possible to attend for individual days and/ or a single weekend.
