Team racing is as dramatic as the weather!

The team racing on Saturday saw the Cadet parents pitched against the Solos. The Solos have obviously been hard at work since their last outing. They were at the club early to rig and tune their boats and develop their team racing tactics.

With the course set we were waiting for the Cadet parents when a 'light' rain shower delayed proceedings. Admittedly there was a touch of thunder and lightning and the race officer Al Sim  found out that denim has an ability to hold a incredible amount of water!

Finally the racing got underway after the course was reset and then reset again. The additional training demanded by the Vernon, the solo team principle, payed dividends with the Solos scoring 1,2 and 6 to take victory in the 1st race.

Both teams were finding their team racing feet in the pre start manouvres for the second race. The sailing was very competitive. The Cadet parents won the start and dominated with a first and second place to take the 2nd race.

Unfortunately due to the rain/thunder/lightning delay the third race had to be the decider. After another enthralling pre-start encounter the Solos were first at the first mark. The Cadet parents had to hold back the 2 other Solos in order to allow their third boat to get into the race. With some truely heroic team racing tactics they managed to do this. Now the Cadet parents were 2nd, 3rd and 4th, a winning combination. However the Solos had different ideas. With one last gasp effort Vernon managed to pick up a place. The Solos took the 3rd race with a 1st, 3rd and 6th. This gave them an overall 2-1 match victory.

After two previous rather one sided team racing weekends todays racing was what the crowds wanted. It was great to watch so well done to all involved.

So after 3 weeks the leader board looks like this:-

Team                     Matches Sailed     Matches Won      Matches Lost         Race Wins

Ian Bartlett                       1                              1                            0                             9

Youths                             1                              1                            0                             7

Solos                               2                              1                            1                             3

Cadet Parents                 2                              0                            2                             0

There are four teams entered in the team race series and their captains are listed below:

Team A - Vernon Perkins - Solos
Team B - Ali Wallace - Youth
Team C - Scott Ballentyne - Cadet Parents/ Cadets
Team D - Ian Bartlett - Mixed

There are 3 more weeks of round robin racing followed by a final between the two highest scoring teams on July 30th, the schedule is as follows:-

Wk 4, Sat 9th Jul,  B vs D
Wk 5, Sat 16th Jul, A vs D
Wk 6, Sat 23rd Jul, B vs C

So on the 9th July its the turn of the youths to face Ian Barletts team.  Both teams are unbeaten with healthy wins under their belts so it look likes it will be a very competative match.

Dont forget that  bar meals are available after racing courtesy of Pam Weeks but please book your meal beforehand.

If you are not sailing why not come down and watch the racing which will be right in front of the clubhouse, weather permitting
