Rhos Hawes

Congratulations to Rhos Hawes, one of our ex-cadets now campaigning in 49ers. He jumped in as crew for the SAP 505 world championships and ended up in 20th place which is a significant achievement considering it was his 1st ever event in a 505!  There were 130 entries and conditions ranged from 'champagne sailing' to wet and windy.  After day one Ross was in 5th place overall dropping down to 7th on day two.

In race 7 they had to avoid a capsized boat and as a result capsized themselves at which point the other boat righted from the capsize and the boom swung round and punctured their hull.  They sailed in quickly (no mean feat as the race course was a 2 mile beat from the Weymouth Marina) to effect some urgent repairs with 'duct' tape and then sailed out again in time for race 8. Unfortunately this incident did not help their overall result but 20th is a fantastic achievement.
