Great news as South Cerney gets OnBoard

We may not be able to sail at the moment but there is still a lot of sailing related activity going on to develop the club, and we can now announce that South Cerney has become the latest sailing club to join the RYA’s OnBoard Program.

Run by sailing’s National Governing Body, the RYA, OnBoard is a hugely successful grass roots programme which seeks to make sailing and windsurfing easier to access for 8-18 year olds. Launched in 2005 the programme has helped introduce over 900,000 young people across the country to sailing and windsurfing.

Hannah Cockle, RYA OnBoard Operations Officer, told us “It’s great to welcome South Cerney Sailing Club to the OnBoard programme. Getting out on the water has a huge amount of benefits, no matter what your age, background or ability. We look forward to working with you and the local community in the future to get as many people as possible enjoying our great sport.”

These benefits include supplier discounts, training opportunities, access to resources to support events and increased opportunity for funding.

We will be seeing more junior and youth sailors at the club as the program kicks in and the cadet coaching will also contain an element or RYA courses once we return to the water.

You can find more details and follow OnBoard on the website and the quarterly e-newsletter called ‘In Your Element’ – if you would like to sign up to receive this newsletter then please log into the RYA website and select it on your email preferences. Then there is Instagram as @ryaonboard and the fun #stayhome challenge!

If you or your family fancy a crack at sailing please pop over to the contacts page and drop us a line.
