Youth Boats

The Youth Fleet is the natural progression for those moving on from a junior pathway or wishing to try a successor boat, see below for the current club options. Our current approach is to focus on double handed dinghies. This will allow our young sailors to develop their skills, reinforced by formal training, in a way that they can play an active part in coaching activities across the club.

The club has a number of boats suitable for Youth Sailing:

  • Double Handed:
    • 420 (Free to hire)
    • Laser 2000
    • Laser 3000 (Free to hire)
    • RS Vision
    • RS200
  • Single Handed:
    • Laser

The RS200 seems to be an ideal boat for Youth Sailing at South Cerney and with a very active circuit it is our current prefered choice for a double hander and we have recently purchased our first boat and plan to expand the fleet further if we can obtain further funding.

Fran and Will have their own distinctive Union Jack wrapped RS200 that they sail at the club and on the RS200 circuit.

Will and Max also have a Laser 3000 which has the excitement of a trapeze.

As always we would encourage our Youth Sailors to try out a variety of boats before buying their own and many members are happy to take out or lend their boats. Fran and Will recently tried out some Foiling RS Aeros thanks to REME and got the chance to go airborne in a dinghy.

Youth sailors who actively sail away from the club and help support sailing activities at home may apply for a free berth for their own Youth boat at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
