News - 3000 Nationals Champions!

September 28th/29th 2019

Max and Will competed in the 3000 Class Nationals at Carsington Water hoping to have a chance of winning the Youth trophy even though they were up against competitors from Sedbergh School in the much lighter and faster V3000. After the first day they found themselves in second place overall (adults and youth) as the strong winds forced many of the boats to retire or sail with reefed mains compromising their performance. Nick and Myles who run the Class Association were confident of the title at this point as they had a 1,1,2 although Max and Will were well placed with a 2,1,1.

The second day was less windy but much wetter and Max and Will won the first race making it all square but then could only manage a 4th in the next race although our very own Eve and Kathy Williams won that race so Nick and Myles could only manage second. It was all then down to the final race as there was a single discard. Max and Will managed to pull out a large lead and Nick and Myles could not match them finally finishing down in fifth so Max and Will finished first overall by one point!

Max and Will therefore ended up winning:

  • Fastest boat overall
  • Fastest Laser 3000 (which they did with Hyde sails and none of the V3000 mods)
  • Fastest youth sailors

However the class cascades trophies down the fleet and so they "only" got the Nationals Trophy!
