Vilvaldi conditions for Albacore Open

On Saturday the weather for the Albacore open was definitely 'Vivaldi'.........four seasons in one day! Wind, no wind, lots of wind  in 360 degree directions, warm sunshine, rain,  hailstones and blustery cold winds,  definitely a challenging day for the competitors and race officer Paul Kimmens.  Despite the conditions, Judy and Paul Armstrong in their new Albacore were the overnight leaders with 3 bullets.  Pam Weeks provided a great meal on Saturday night and early morning breakfast on Sunday ready for the scheduled 2 races.

On Sunday morning the wind was much more settled with a nice 10-14 knots from the SW.  The sun was out for the 1st race of the morning and it was almost champagne sailing conditions.  For the 2nd race the clouds came in and the temperature dropped but the wind remained steady.  Judy and Paul Armstrong took another two bullets on Sunday completing a full set for the weekend,  impressive sailing indeed.

We also had an unexpected VIP for the weekend; Matthew Metcalfe-Smith celebrated his 21st birthday and received an official 'lordship' title as one of his presents, not sure we have ever had a Lord present at the club before!

The overall results were:

1st    Judy and Paul Armstrong (Scaling Dam SC)
2nd  Lord Matthew Metcalfe-Smith and Emma Metclafe-Smith (Carsington SC)
3rd  Phillip Tindall and Julie Maidment (Maidenhead SC)

Highest placed SCSC boat (4th overall)  Dave Whittle and Jackie Vale

All in all another excellent open event hosted at our Club.
