SCSC sailor wins University Team Racing Championships

Congratulations to Catriona Wallace and the rest of her Cambridge Blue team on winning the British University Sailing Association (BUSA) team racing championships last weekend.  After winning their regional qualifier in early February, they progressed directly to the finals at Grafham Water.  Twenty eight teams competed over two and a half days of Swiss League racing, where a total of 19 rounds and 266 races were completed.  Eight teams from the original 84 teams that started the competition made it to the quarter final stage.  Cambridge Blue beat Loughborough White 2-0 to secure their semi final place, and then beat Cardiff Black 2-1 to become BUSA finalists.

After losing the first race in the final to Exeter Black, Cambridge Blue fought back convincingly and won the next three races with 2-3-4, 1-2-6 and 1-2-3 combinations, taking the best of 5 race final 3-1.

This was the 3rd BUSA win for team captain Tim Gratton, however for the rest of the team, a new height of achievement.  Well done to Tim, Daisy Baxter, Christopher Eames, Rachel Tilley, Robbie Gilmore and Catriona Wallace.

As we are starting our own team racing series, a video of one of the final races (race 2) between Cambridge Blue and Exeter Black is provided for inspiration!  Cambridge Blue are sailing in the red boats, and Robbie and Catriona are in Red 1.
