Rules is Rules....

During 2016 we adopted the RYA advisory and arbitration processes for resolving rules disputes. These processes are less formal than a full protest hearing and the aim is to simplify the resolving of rules disputes and encourage members to raise protests on the water and to follow through with the resolution on shore.

As part of adopting the processes we have arranged a Rules Advisor training course on Jan 28th. The course is not a formal qualification but the aim is to give people the skills to be appointed as rules advisors within the club. The course is aimed at:-

  • The process of running an advisory hearing or an arbitration hearing
  • The techniques of ‘finding facts’ – establishing what happened.

The course cannot hope to teach all the rules themselves, although there is plenty of practical work to get experience of applying the rules to the facts.

We are delighted to have secured the services of Charlie Watson to present the course.  He is a very experienced RYA National Judge.

The course includes FREE breakfast and lunch.

Also as you may be aware the Racing Rules of Saiiling (RRS) change on Jan 1st 2017.  To understand the changes and to ask any questions you may have about the RRS we have arranged a rules evening on Jan 28th.  The evening includes a FREE fish and chip supper.
