Cadet Nationals Success for SCSC Cadets

The Cadet Nationals were held at Royal Torbay Yacht Club in Torquay from 28th to 31st August and we had 3 boats from SCSC representing us. The SCSC Cadets are:

  • Aliya and Aqil Jannaty in All is Swell - in Gold Fleet
  • Harry & Alice Folkard in Execalibur - in Silver Fleet
  • Max Buswell and William Farrant in Exe-celerator - Bronze Fleet

Day 1  (2 races planned) was a breezy day with 22 knot gusts which proved challenging for all, even for the Gold Fleet. The SCSC Cadet had success in that Aliya/Aqil led most of the race 1 only to be overtaken on the last run and came in 2nd place. Harry/Alice sailed superbly and secured 2 wins in the silver fleet. Max and William survived the first race but unfortunately suffered from several capsizes and  Max  ended up going to hospital after a nasty cut on the knee requiring 5 stitches - this took out him and William out of the remaining races. Get well soon Max.

After 4 days of racing, Aliya/Aqil were 10th place overall and Harry/Alice 19th overall but winners of the Silver Fleet which is a great follow on from last year when they were winners of the Bronze Fleet - hopefully next year, Cadet National champion in Gold Fleet.

Congratulations to all on a great Nationals which had some challenging sailing with stiff competition from GBR World Team sailors as well.
