Andy"Taxi"Davis visits SCSC for a Sailing Masterclass

Well it blew and it blew but undetered one of the Solo Sailing Royalty, Andy"Taxi"Davis, visiting SCSC on Sunday 9th February showed everybody just how to tame the wind.  With winds well over 20 knots gusting 30+ Andy provided us with a Sailing Masterclass.   The multi Solo National Champion with countless other accolades to his name showed all just how to handle a Solo in the conditions, with relative ease and utter confidence; how easy it looks.

Andy, also of HD Sails, was a guest at South Cerney Sailing Club, looking to get some competition from the very strong Solo Fleet at the club and shake down a new mast and, of course, HD Sail combination.  Conditions along with many boats off the lake for winter limited the number of Solos sailing.  4 Solos, an RS200 and an RS Vareo took on the chalanging elements, with a further 12 Solo helm looking on from the bank.  An excellent course was set for the penultimate day of the clubs "Chili Dog" series.  But even with his demonstration of perfectly controlled gybes and blistering speed he was kept very honest by the clubs Guy Lonsdale who matched his perfromance. The newly adopted clubs Tacktracker system was employed to its full and showed just how the boats were flying and allowed for some micro disection of the race after the event, didn't know a Solo could go like that on our Lake.

This is Andy's first visit to our club and we were keen to get a comment about the club and day's sailing:

"First Impressions of the club were, I thought it was very neat and tidy and well laid out, the facilities were excellent. I like the idea of the Tack Trackers, certainly a club moving with the times. I was made to feel very welcome and enjoyed the sailing, the course was excellent with two good beats, a few flat out reaches and some extra gybe marks put in for the race officers, amusement I'm sure, Thanks Andy Miles! I look forward to meeting you all again soon, hopefully in warmer climates." Andy Davis.

We are of course all looking forward to Andy's next visit, hopefully more of the near 40 strong Solo Fleet will be in a position to challenge him.

But Andy is not the only helm we openly invite to our club, of which we are very proud.  Contact us to arrange a visit, from champions, aspiring champions, cruisers or novices, all are equally welcomed.  (contact details above)

What we can guarantee is our superb facilities and great lake, the enjoyment is down to you.

Of course we all wish Andy the very best for this year's sailing season.  We really look forward to having him back at the club as soon as possible.
