44 boats enter Bart's Bash and Corinium Cup

Sunday saw the biggest fleet at South Cerney Sailing Club for some time.  44 boats took part, with the full range of handicaps from RS400's to Cadets starting at 11am on Sunday.  Our race officer, the one and only Paul Kimmens, laid a simple rectangular course to avoid crossings as much as possible.  Even with this forethought, mark roundings were very busy!

In spite of his earlier plans to be mid fleet, Blair Jamieson (Solo) took the win on corrected time, with Andy Miles (Solo) hot on his heels a short 8 seconds behind.  Andrew and Catriona Wallace (Flying Fifteen) enjoyed line honours, and third on corrected time.  Our first "Grand Master" was David Pocock (Solo) in 4th place, and first Youth was Fran Neale and Flo Hawker (Cadet) in 15th place.

The fleet reduced a little after the first Bart's Bash race, and 25 boats stayed out for the second race of the Corinium Cup trophy.  With the wind slightly increased Lasers came to the fore with Al Sim (Laser) winning race 2, followed by Russ Harvey (Laser) in second and Andy Miles in 3rd.  There were certainly thrills and spills at the gybe mark when a number of gusts came down the lake with the sole intention of wiping out the race tail enders.

After everyone was ahore it was time for one of Pam Weeks' legendary meals.  A full English roast no less, with enough homemade sauces to qualify it for a Christmas dinner!  Those that had a little of everything started to worry about falling asleep at the tiller in the afternoon.

Racing started again just before 3pm when (largely due to lunch) a reduced, but still respectable, fleet of 17 boats took to the water.  Race 3 was won by Andy Miles and Graham Cooper (Devotti D-Zero), with Dave Whittle and Sara Lobo (Albacore) 3rd.  Andy and Graham took 1st and 2nd in the last race of the day, with John Gilden (Solo) taking 3rd place.

In the Youth fleet, Catriona Wallace (Europe) came first with 19th, 11th and 10th in the last 3 races of the day.  Fran and Flo came 2nd with their results of 15th, 17th and 15th.  Tom Schaffner came 3rd with a 20th and an 8th.  In the Adult fleet, Andy Miles came first overall, with Dave and Sara 2nd and Graham Cooper 3rd.  On behalf of everyone present, Andy thanked the race officer, galley team, race officials safety and independent observers.  It was a huge effort on the part of our volunteers, but undoubtedly a huge success!
