Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all South Cerney Cadets.

I hope that you had a great holiday, and that you got all the sailing related presents you hoped for!

We have already been pretty busy on your behalf getting boats repaired, organising event schedules and sorting out coaching plans.  In addition, if you didn't already know, 2015 is South Cerney Sailing Club's 60th Anniversary - its looking like it will be a great year.

Thank you

I'd like to start with a big thank you to Cadet parents.  We are only 6 days into the new year, and already nearly 60% of the duties for next year are filled.  That has to be some kind of a record.  If you haven't yet selected any duties, please do so quickly, otherwise your options on dates will be fairly limited.  The steps are pretty simple this year:

  1. Login to the South Cerney Sailing Club website
  2. Select Duties from under the Members menu
  3. Select the Cadet duty roster
  4. Click on "Volunteer" for at least 6 duties over the year, including 1 x Galley 1 and 1 x Galley 2
  5. Sit back and relax in the knowledge that you are playing your part in making our club a success

UK Cadet Class

I have just received a note from the UKNCCA (the UK Cadet Class) asking that anyone wishing to attend their training or events (e.g. Nationals, Inlands or class training) send in their membership dues as soon as possible.  The membership form is here:

and you can reach the Cadet Class committee via their email address

Cadet Coaching Award

I am looking for applicants for the 2015 Cadet Coaching Award.  In order to apply, you must be aged between 16 and 18 on the 1st April (our start of season) and a currrent member of South Cerney Sailing Club.  The award provides the funds to cover the cost of getting RYA coaching certification (which includes First Aid, Powerboat Level 2 and RYA Coach Level 2), as well as the opportunity to develop your coaching skills at South Cerney Sailing Club.  If you are interested, please drop me a note at and I will organise for you to meet and discuss the opportunity with our Cadet Committee.  Full details will be posted on our website.

Spring Coaching

I know that the season starts proper on the 4th April, but I also know how keen you all are to get back on the water.  I am looking to organise some Spring coaching sessions, where we will be bringing in external coaches, as well as making use of our excellent club coaches.  I will start a topic in the Cadet forum to guage the level of interest.  Please add your comments, and give me an idea of the dates that suit you all from February to March.

As always, keep the dry side up!
