Cadet Update - 27 September 2014

Dear Cadets and Cadet Parents

Last Weekend (20 September)

Sailing last Saturday at the club was challenging given the light winds winds.  However this gave the 9 Cadet boats a chance to practice their upwind sailing technique, tacking and starting under the expert guidance of Andrew Wallace and Sophie Goodrich.  Of particular note was Fran who won the match racing mini series. All tacking improved considerably and a visible difference was made to their upwind sailing.

Inland Championships (20th & 21st Sept) - Graham Water

The Cadet Inlands were held last weekend and we had 3 SCSC boats enter in a field of 48 boats. Stiff competition amongst the Gold and SIlver fleet so well done to our cadets. The final results were:

Aliya & Aqil - 12th

Harry & Alice - 29th

Felix & Jack -  48th

The full results can be found here.

This Weekend (27th September) - Autumn Trophy Race Day - 2 of 2

This Saturday is race day for the Autumn Trophy shown below:

Dinghy Instructor (DI) Course

I have managed to get an instructor to carry out a  DI course over several weekends, the provisional dates are:

Sat 25/10/14 Re-Assessment
Sun 26/10/14
Sat 08/11/14
Sun 09/11/14
Sat 29/11/14
Sun 30/11/14 Moderation

The likely costs will vary from £175 to £250 (still finalising the costs) and in addition you will need a RYA Powerboat Level 2 pre the course and also a RYA  first aid qualification. I need 6 people per course and I have had 2 other cadet parents indicate they are willing to do this - please use the forum page to indicate you are interested before I open it up to other club members.

RYA Powerboat Level 2  (10-12 Oct)

SCSC have a course running on Fri 10 - Sun 12 Oct - the Friday is 7pm - 9pm for some ground school. Please rember this is a prerequesite for the DI and Race Coach qualifications. The cost to members is only £95  and there are currently only 3 people booked on it so plenty of space available.

Table Top Sale - Sat 11th October

A Cadet table top sale is to be held on Sat 11th Oct. I suggest a selling fee of 10% with a max £5 per family selling items payable to the Cadet Squadron on the day. I will open this up to Main Club as well and all the monies raised from the entry fees will go to the Cadet Squadron fund. Thank you to Ruth Folkard who will be organising and managing this on the day. Please bring along your sailing related clothing/equipment clearly labelled with your surname and price.

SCSC Cadet AGM - 25th October

We need to start to think about the various roles we have and how to fill them. At the moment I am not going to stand again as the Cadet Captain - the key ones are Race Coaches and Race Officers. I am happy to discuss what these roles involve and the forum page is here.

End of Year Prize Giving/Tudor Feast - 29th November

A fantastic end to the sailing year with lots of trophies for Cadets to be awarded - the event will be at the club so please book early otherwise you will miss out because of limited space will mean tickets will be limited.

Pam has offered free child tickets for those Cadets that help out with serving the adults on the night - dressing up is optional. Any Cadet that attends the end of year prize giving will have a free lucky dip prize.

Tickets cost £20 per adult (child TBA) and must be booked up to one week in advance from Pam Weeks. pam-mikeweeks@live.co.uk or 01793 762962
