Thank you to Bryan Rose, a new member, for stepping up to be Treasurer.  Thank you too to Pam Weeks for taking on the role of Social Secretary and to Gary Morris for assuming Rear Commodore responsibilities.

The important post to fill now is that of Sailing Secretary ,  to be the Sailing Committee coordinator.   We need a lively member, who is around a lot, preferably actively sailing and importantly someone who is good with computers!  Judging by the number of qualifiers for the Frostbite series we should have plenty of choice … but who will step forward  ??  …please !!!    Whoever does step forward is lucky in that Paul Kimmens has already done most of the work ready for next year so it should be a doddle !!

At the AGM the main points of my report were briefly, to highlight the success of this year, once the weather had released its grip!!  Successful taster days introduced many new members , a full racing programme and training schedule ensured loads of activity on the water. I thanked everyone involved for their efforts and especially Paul Kimmens for driving the programme along and to Kevin Weatherhead for his great job of recording results and getting them posted on the Web Site so quickly!!

The questionnaire that was sent out to all members was well received and the feed back has been acted upon with the resulting changes to the sailing programme for next year. This will see juniors encouraged to stay on after their Saturday morning training to participate in back to back Handicap races in the afternoon. Class racing will be on Sunday mornings with the Pursuit Race in the afternoon.

More taster days are planned and we will start these earlier in the year  with yet more attention paid to encouraging new members to sail and to helping them get through that sometimes awkward stage between joining and getting into regular sailing,  whether it be racing or cruising.

The storage facility for windsurfers is at last under way and we hope that they will take advantage of this new facility.

We will continue to improve our facilities when funds allow and I drew the meetings attention to the new touch screen information center on the main notice board which will replace the need for bits of paper ( usually out of date! ) pinned up on the various other notice boards in the club house. The screen provides instant access to our web site, which holds most of the relevant information about the Club and can be used as a training facility.  Thanks to Sven Holwell and Paul Kimmens for setting this up. Our thanks too, to Andrew Wallace, who has made a great job of updating our Web site and migrated it to a new provider. You will have received notice of this , so please visit it and get yourself logged on !!

Regarding the jump in fees, I explained that we had held the fees down for too long in the belief that we would benefit from new members joining to take advantage of ‘good value ‘  As a result the situation arose this year where expenditure was beginning to exceed income and with running costs rising sharply ( and likely to continue to do so ) the decision was taken to increase fees to where they might have been had we undertaken an annual and smaller increment.  We are committed to continue to manage the ‘financial balancing act’ of keeping facilities in good condition and providing value for money.

You will be glad to know that, on the whole, the Club is in a strong position. We look set for a great year of sailing and fun next year !!

I hope you will have a very jolly Christmas and a Happy New Year!   I look forward to seeing you on the water and enjoying the brilliant Club we have.
